Minnesota is one of the states included in a recall of a popular convenience store sandwich.  Dakota Tom's is recalling their Chicken Salad Croissant due to an undeclared egg and milk allergen. The South Dakota-based company is working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on the voluntary recall.

According to information released by the company - and shared by the U.S. FDA, the deli-style sandwiches were distributed in Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, and South Dakota.  They were available for sale in convenience stores and vending machines.

At this time there have been no known reports of medical issues or illness related to the recalled product.  However, people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to egg or milk allergen run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

Here are the specifics of the recalled product:

  • Brand name:  Dakota Tom's
  • Product:  Chicken Salad Croissant
  • Use By Dates:  12/7/2021 through 1/12/2022. Dates are located on the front of the packaging

Dakota Tom's initiated the voluntary recall effort after it was discovered that the sandwiches contain egg and milk and they were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of those food ingredients.  An internal investigation ensured.  It was determined that the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the production and packaging processes.
