The largest shopping center in Minnesota is taking a stand against eroding family holiday time;  The Mall of America has announced that it will be closed on Thanksgiving Day this year - bucking a trend by retailers in recent years to "open early" for Black Friday sales.

While the mall won't force it's tenant retailers to not be open on the Thanksgiving holiday, they've made their plans known for the collective spaces in the building;  Nickelodeon Universe and the movie theaters will not be open on that Thursday.  Mall of America spokespeople say that they'll hold a special door opening event at 5:00 AM on Black Friday.
