Never as popular as the Beatles or the Stones, The Kinks still hold their own as part of the British Invasion. The core of The Kinks were brothers Ray & Dave Davies, Pete Quaife, and Mick Avory. Signed to a contract in 1964 with Pye records, the boys had 12 hits in the r&r top 40, and did even better in their homeland. The song Lola was inspired by transvestite Candy Darling who allegedly dated head Kink Ray Davies for a time.
