What Will The Weather Be Like In Duluth In June?
Now that it is officially the month of June, it is actually starting to feel like summer - almost. It has been a long and dreary year in the Twin Ports but things look to be on the up and up, at least according to the Old Farmer's Almanac.
The Old Farmer's Almanac did okay with their forecast for the Duluth area last month. They were forecasting periods of warm sunshine and periods of rain. While it was a pretty gloomy month, it wasn't as warm as they were saying it would be.
In fact, they were saying that our region would be about ten degrees above average in terms of temperature! However, that was not the case. The Duluth area as a whole saw an average temperature just about a degree above average, according to WDIO Meteorologist Brandon Weathers.
He shared a May recap on his Twitter page on Wednesday (June 1st). According to his report, Duluth was about 0.6 degrees above average all month, which was a far cry from the nearly ten degrees above average the Old Farmer's Almanac was predicting.
The Old Farmer's Almanac Says June Will Be Warm & Rainy
Now, we are looking ahead to a new month. As always, you have to take the Old Farmer's Almanac with a grain of salt. However, it is fun to look at what they are forecasting even if it doesn't come true.
So what are they forecasting for the month ahead? For most of the month, our region is looking at warm temperatures and thunderstorms! For the last third of the month, temperatures are expected to cool off a bit before warming up again right before July.
Just like last month, they are predicting a slightly warmer month than usual, with an average temperature in the mid-sixties. They are also predicting a rainy month with our region getting about an inch more precipitation than usual for June.
The National Weather Service of Duluth Weighs In
Things are shaping up to be quite different, according to the National Weather Service of Duluth. They also shared an outlook for the month ahead on their social media pages on the first of the month.
As you can tell by the graphics they shared, the first half of the month might be a chilly one for us in the Northland. The temperature outlook, which in this instance extends into mid-month, shows our region falling into the "below average" category.
This is a bit of a bummer but even more so when you take a look at the images on the left. This time last year, we were experiencing really hot temperatures in our area, which is a far cry from what is ahead of us this time around.
Putting Things Into Perspective
If you're bummed about the forecast, you probably aren't alone. However, think back on May, when the National Weather Service of Duluth said to expect widespread near-freezing temperatures. That likely won't happen again in June - I hope.
Looking Ahead To The Summer Season
Don't lose hope after seeing these forecasts! The Twin Cities office of the National Weather Service shared an outlook for the entire summer season in early May. The outlook summed up basically says our region can expect "hotter and drier than normal conditions" come this summer. It looks like we will just have to get through the first part of June before we see it!
