Everything Must Now Go At This Minnesota Hotel’s Garage Sale
Garage sales have been popular in various residential neighborhoods here in Minnesota forever, but have you ever heard of a hotel holding a garage sale?
The garage sale is a concept most Minnesotans are familiar with. The online dictionary, Oxford Languages, defines a garage sale as 'a sale of miscellaneous household goods, often held in the garage or front yard of someone's house.' And here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, they're often held in the spring, summer or fall.
The garage sale concept isn't exactly new, either. Encyclopedia.com says they've been a Minnesotan staple since the 50s and 60s, noting: 'Increased affluence in the 50s and 60s led many Americans to accumulate household goods in excess; concurrently, increased home-ownership created the venue from which to sell these goods.'
These days, there are a LOT of garage sales, too, with Americans hosting anywhere between 9 million of them every year, Encyclopedia.com noted. But not many of them are held at a hotel... by a hotel, right?
But that's what is currently going on at the Millenium Hotel in Minneapolis. The hotel, on the Nicollet Mall, closed in November and is undergoing a $40 million dollar renovation and rebranding project, BringMeTheNews said.
