With so many people and too many of us not considering the negative impact our actions take on our environment we sadly have ended up with many polluted waters. This isn't just in the US, it's all around the world.

But in the US, specifically, I found the most polluted rivers in the country. One of those rivers runs through Minnesota.

How to Help Prevent Water Pollution

There are many ways that everyone can help prevent water pollution from getting worse. As long as you do what you can to help, that's what matters and it will make an impact!

Here are some recommendations from the US Environmental Protection Agency:

Take shorter showers.

Speaking of showers, install a water-efficient showerhead.

The next time you need to get a toilet, opt for the low-flow model.

Don't use your garbage disposal. Instead, compost your food scraps.

Wash your clothes with cold water when you can.

Keep your grass at least 3 inches tall. This helps protect the roots which then makes it more drought-resistant, meaning you don't have to water your lawn as much.

And when you water your grass, try to do so in the evening or very early morning. That way less of the water gets evaporated by the sun.

Minnesota's Most Polluted River

Back to the most polluted rivers in the country, like I said, one of the most polluted runs through Minnesota.

I found a list of the top 15 most polluted rivers in the US from a site called EcoCation. The one that runs through our state is number three on the list.

Let's start with the fifth most polluted river in the country. That would be the Tennessee River.
