(UPDATE) Waseca Wildfire Scorched About 1700 Acres & Injured 3
Waseca, MN (KROC--AM News) - The Waseca Fire Department held a news conference Monday afternoon to discuss the fast-moving wildfire that injured two firefighters and a resident on Sunday.
Officials say the fire was reported around noon on Sunday in a suburban area just east of Waseca. The tinder dry conditions combined with record warmth and winds gusting above 40 mph helped quickly spread the flames out of control.
The Waseca Fire Department indicated multiple residents were evacuated, but no structures were damaged or destroyed. It was estimated that the fire scorched about 1700 acres.
The two injured firefighters were taken to a hospital where they were treated and released, while information about the medical condition of the injured resident is not available.
In addition to the Waseca firefighters, 11 other fire departments from surrounding communities were called in to assist with the firefighting efforts. It was reported that the fire was finally contained around 10 PM on the Sunday.
