Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck by Train in Twin Cities

Anoka, MN (MinnesotaNow)- A man is dead after he was struck by a train in the northern Twin Cities Metro Friday night.

The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office was one of multiple agencies to respond to the fatality, which occurred shortly after 9 p.m.

Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck by Train Near Anoka County Fairgrounds

The deadly incident occurred near the Anoka County Fairgrounds, where the Anoka County Fair is currently happening.

First responders were called to the report of a train striking a pedestrian at the railroad crossing in the 2700 block of North Ferry St. in Anoka. 

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities say. 

Preliminary Investigation

The preliminary investigation indicates the man was attempting to cross in front of a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway train when he was struck.

The man’s name has not been released and the fatality is under investigation. Officials plan to disclose more information at a later time. 

Road closures stemming from the investigation into the fatal collision impacted traffic for those leaving the nearby fairgrounds. 

Metro Transit responded to shuttle fairgoers to their vehicles.
