Chaska, MN (KROC-AM News) - The body of a missing swimmer was recovered this morning from the Minnesota River near the Twin Cities.

Reported Missing Wednesday Afternoon

The Carver County Sheriff's Office says the man was reported missing late Wednesday afternoon near the Highway 41 bridge in Chaska. A news release says deputies, along with police officers from Chaska and the Chaska Fire Department, immediately responded to the scene, which is adjacent to a boat ramp.

Witnesses Saw Swimmer Disappear Beneath Water

The Sheriff's Office reported that witnesses saw the man enter the water on his own and begin swimming. At one point, he submerged underwater and did not resurface.

Sonar, Drones, and Helicopter Used in Search

A State Patrol helicopter, airborne and underwater drones, and boats equipped with sonar were deployed for the search effort, which ended around 10:30 Friday morning. The news release says the deceased man was located in the same area where he was reported missing.

The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office is conducting an autopsy and confirming the victim's identification. His name has not been released.

Recent Deadly Water Incidents Across Minnesota

It was the third deadly mishap on a Minnesota waterway this week. There was a fatal boating mishap on Lake Vermilion that took the life of an Eveleth man and injured three others. The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office also reported the apparent drowning death of a 19-year-old college student after a paddle boat capsized on a Brainerd-area lake.
