On Friday night after Thanksgiving my wife got home, opened the freezer and said "Oh, I see we still don't have Tom and Jerry Batter".  She was correct, I had failed and not picked up the stuff to make one of our favorite winter cocktails.

I promptly put on my boots and pants and headed to Belknap Liquor to grab the goods, the most important on the list of course being Connolly's Tom and Jerry Batter

Connolly's is made right in Superior, Wisconsin so not only is it a local business to support, but it's also incredible when the temps start to drop in the Twin Ports.

The batter isn't full of complicated ingredients, to shorten the already short list it's basically sugar, marshmallow powder, and eggs.  You simply put a couple of tablespoons of the mix into a coffee mug(I use about three) then add a bit over and ounce of brandy, and an equal amount of rum for which I usually use Bicardi Gold.  For the booze I just do a shot for my measurement.  Then you top it with some nutmeg if you like the taste.

The concoction resulting is sweet, creamy, boozy, and will warm the belly.  Note that with the directions above, I like it better adding the frozen mix after the other ingredients are in the mug, you get to drink the hot booze water through the now melting mix and it's perfect.

A container of Connolly's Tom and Jerry Batter is around $10 and it's so worth having in the freezer, especially around the holidays.  I haven't tried it yet, but I hear using the batter for French Toast is quite incredible too!
