While much of this winter hasn't been aggressively snowy, Mother Nature decided to make up for lost time in the Northland with a blizzard that packed near-hurricane force wind gusts and feet of heavy, wet snow this week.

Ahead of its arrival, this winter storm was being billed as "messy", as it was forecasted to bring a mix of rain, freezing rain, heavy snow, and powerful winds across Minnesota and parts of Wisconsin.

At the center of this storm's target was Minnesota's North Shore, which saw the most powerful wind gusts and heaviest snowfall during this week's event.

The highest recorded wind gust was 69 mph on the Blatnik Bridge between Duluth and Superior. This is just shy of category 1 hurricane winds, which is 74 mph. Several places across the Northland saw gusts of 50+ mph.

On the snow side of things, Minnesota's North Shore along Lake Superior was the forecasted target. This very much proved to be true. For a time on Wednesday, blizzard conditions from heavy, blowing snow made Highway 61 completely impassible. Very heavy snow quickly piled up, with anywhere from a foot to over three feet of snow falling during this week's storm.

Here are the totals from this week's blizzard across the Northland.
