After A Delay, Minnesota’s MNDOT Name A Snowplow Contest Announces Finalists

After what I'll call a little extra anticipation-building, the voting is now getting underway in the 2025-2026 Minnesota Department of Transportation's Name A Snowplow contest.

As I had mentioned in an article at the end of January, voting for this winter's campaign to name some new MNDOT plow trucks around Minnesota was supposed to get underway in January. For some undisclosed reason, the voting portion of this fun winter campaign was moved back from January to February.

After a bit of a delay, MNDOT shared that they have narrowed the field of name submissions from a pool of more than 6,750 submissions from people around Minnesota down to 30 finalists the public can now vote on.

When MNDOT announced the 2025-2025 contest back in December, I had mentioned that this year's crop of name submissions has a lot to live up to after last year's awesome names.

Does this winter's crop of finalists live up to those expectations? I'd say so!

While there are some repeat candidates from years' past, there are also some new names in this year's field of finalists that I think are pretty solid!

There are a solid handful of pop culture references like "K Pop Blizzard Hunter", "O Brother, Where Art Plow?", "The Life Of A Snowgirl", and "Flurrious George".

Voting for this year's contest is going on now through Friday, February 13 via the MNDOT Name A Snowplow website. The field of 30 names will be narrowed down to the most popular 8 names, one for each of MNDOT's 8 districts.
