Minnesota Airport Adding Direct Flights to Florida This Winter

For those that love to escape the winter snow and cold, Florida is a popular location to accomplish that, and one Minnesota city will have an easier time getting there starting soon.

Minnesota-based Sun Country with its headquarters at the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport announced the return of the direct flights to the popular Florida destination.

The Duluth Airport Authority made the announcement that starting on January 31st, the low-cost airline will operate non-stop flights to Fort Meyers on Mondays and Fridays.

Flights will depart Duluth International Airport (DLH) at 7 PM and arrive at Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) at 11:35 PM, and return flights will leave RSW at 3:05 PM and arrive back in Duluth at 5:50 PM.

According to the Duluth Airport Authority, this popular seasonal route from Sun Country is returning due to the amount of demand from travelers looking to escape Minnesota for some beach time in Southwest Florida.

Tom Werner, Duluth Airport Authorities’ Executive Director, is asking that the Northland support this route in hopes that an expansion will happen in the future, "If the route is to expand its season in Duluth going forward, we as a community must demonstrate demand to do so," he said in a press release.

Currently, United Airlines offers three daily nonstop flights to Chicago and Delta Air Lines offers three daily nonstop flights to Minneapolis/St. Paul from Duluth, so this added flight is a welcome addition to the lineup.

It doesn't look like these flights are on sale yet, a quick check of Sun Country's website shows flights still departing from MSP with bus transportation from Duluth. So keep checking the website or their new mobile app for flights to come soon.
