UPDATE 03/21/25: There is now a winter storm watch issued for this weekend. Details about that and the latest forecasted snow totals can be found here

While we've officially entered spring on the calendar, that definitely doesn't mean we're done with snow in Minnesota.

Hot on the heels of some blizzard conditions in Southern Minnesota earlier this week, Central and Northern Minnesota could be in for a dose of snow this coming weekend.

Several places have good odds of seeing plowable snow, particularly during the later part of the weekend.

Here's the latest.

What parts of Minnesota are most likely to see snow this weekend?

While there is a chance most of Minnesota could see at least a dusting of snow, the northern half of the state looks to have the greatest odds of more significant snow by the end of the weekend with the current storm track.

More specifically, getting north of the Brainerd area, with places like the Iron Range, Duluth, and the North Shore among areas that could see the heaviest of what snow falls this weekend.

UPDATE 03/21/25: There is now a winter storm watch issued for this weekend. Updated snowfall totals include up to a foot of snow possible in parts of Northern Minnesota. Details about that and the latest forecasted snow totals can be found here

Some light snow is possible on Friday before things clear out on Friday evening. Saturday will remain sunny through most of the day before the bigger round of snow enters the picture on Saturday evening.

Snow chances will persist Saturday night into Sunday, all the way into Sunday evening. Where things get complicated is there is a chance some of that precip Saturday night into the daytime hours on Sunday could fall as mixed precip or rain.

Depending on where and when these warmer temperatures pop up, it could greatly impact the amount of snow that falls.

So, how much snow are we talking about for Minnesota this weekend?

As I mentioned above, the midday Sunday warmer temperatures complicate predictions.

I've seen a few weather models that suggest a few pockets in the Northland like Duluth and along the North Shore where more than a foot of snow can fall. Other models are a lot more modest with their forecast totals, closer to only a couple of inches of snow.

As of right now, the National Weather Service is just offering forecast odds of who could see more than 4 inches of snow across Northern Minnesota. Much of Northern Minnesota has at least a 50% chance of seeing at least 4 inches of snow this weekend.

The greatest odds are along the North Shore, with places like Duluth and the Iron Range also seeing very favorable odds of at least that much.

We'll update this as we get a little closer to give a clearer picture, but it does look like kind of a messy end to the weekend across Northern Minnesota.
