Final Indiana Jones Movie Releases 42 Years After Franchise Premiere- I’m Nerding Out
I'll proudly admit that I'm a huge Indiana Jones nerd. Huge. I already have my tickets lined up for the release of the long-awaited 5th and final movie Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (Rated PG-13). It's all I can think about.
If you're old enough to remember Harrison Ford and the release of the first in the series, Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981 (it was that year's top-grossing film), then you're probably itching and twitching to see the 5th and final movie in the action-adventure series, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The motion picture film releases this Friday, June 30.
The film series began in 1981 with Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. I fell in love with the dapper and resourceful archaeology professor turned extreme adventurer. After seeing the movie once, I was hooked. My obsession with Indy intensified in 1984 with the release of the second movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I admittedly became obsessed with the whip-toting swashbuckler.
In 1989, the third movie in the franchise- Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was released. It was so good! Not only was this film the highest-grossing film of that year, but it also takes the cake as the highest-grossing within the film series... so far.
Indiana Jones fans, myself included, have been hungry for more since 2008 when the 4th movie in the franchise, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, was released, with less-than-great reviews. I agree with the masses on this one. It still captivated and entertained me, just not at the level that the others did.
The first 4 films in the series were created by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, who signed with Paramount Pictures in 1979, with the agreement that there would be 5 different films. 44 years after the conception, we are finally getting what we were promised: the 5th installment, but this time, James Mangold is at the helm. After watching the trailer- I think he did a stand-up job.
The trailer has me on the edge of my seat. My tickets are already purchased! Nerd out with me and make plans now! Grab a friend and prebuy your tickets. Duluth's Marcus Theaters are looking forward to a steady influx of moviegoers. You won't want to miss it. Dr. Jones is hanging up his fedora so this is our last opportunity to adventure with him. After all, he's 80 years old.
