REVIEW: Duluth’s New Voyageur Donuts Serving Up Sweet, Savory, Inventive Creations
Calling all donut lovers! There's a new option in the Twin Ports area serving up some unique donut creations, along with some classic options.
For several months now, there has been signage up in the Dewitt-Seitz Marketplace building in Duluth's Canal Park teasing the impending arrival of Voyageur Donuts.
The business, taking over the old Northern Waters Smokehaus location on the north side of the ground level of the building, has been making preparations for quite some time now, though details have been pretty scant. Until now.
Launching an Instagram page back in December of 2024, they've been teasing an opening sometime in 2025 with a small handful of posts to build some buzz around the upcoming Duluth donut destination.

On October 30, they made the highly anticipated announcement that they'd be opening at 7 am on Friday, October 31. No trick here, just an anticipation of some amazing treats. So I went to check the place out. Here's what you need to know about the new donut spot and a review.
What To Know About Duluth's Voyageur Donuts
Walk on up to the ordering window on the exterior of the Dewitt-Seitz building and take a peek at their menu to make the tough decision of what donut(s) you want to order.
Their menu includes coffee & espresso drinks, bottled beverages, teas, soft-serve ice cream, and - of course - donuts.

The donut menu is broken into a few different categories. Here's a breakdown:
Staples - These are your more traditional "classic" donuts. They range from a "plain ass donut" called "The Steve" to some more creative options. Costs for these donuts range from $1.50 to $3.00 per donut. They include:
- Voyageur: Vanilla cake donut, orange zest, vanilla bean glaze
- Superior: Chocolate cake donut, vanilla bean glaze, sugar crystals
- Forager: Blueberry cake donut, lemon glaze
- Lefsa: Potato donut, vanilla glaze, cinnamon sugar
- The Steve: This is a simple donut, described on their menu as a "plain ass donut"
- The Cinny Steve: It's basically "The Steve" with a cinnamon sugar coating
Signatures - These are the "fancy" donuts, with some creative options. The most creative of the bunch is the "Hot Dish" donut, which reminds me of something you'd see at the Minnesota State Fair. I tried that one. More on that in a bit. Here's a look at the Signature donuts:
- Hot Dish: Potato and cheese donut, cream cheese, bacon, chive, sour cream & onion potato chips on top
- Animal Crackers: Vanilla donut, pink glaze, rainbow sprinkles
- Monster: Chocolate donut, chocolate glaze, peanut butter drizzle, peanut topping, finishing salt
- Lemon & Lavender: Lemon donut with lavender flowers, lemon vanilla glaze, dried lavender
- Strawberry Shortcake: Vanilla bean donut, strawberry icing, strawberry crumble
They also offer some seasonal specials and a "Sift GF Donut", a gluten-free option.
Reviewing Voyageur Donuts: The Coffee, The Donut, The Experience
The crew at Voyageur Donuts was super friendly when I walked up to the window to place my order. They pointed out some menu items, and I ultimately ended up ordering one of each of their Signature donuts to share with some folks and a cold brew coffee for myself.
The cold brew, which they say is brewed for 20 hours, was rich and bold and hit the spot. I'd go back just for a coffee! Either for another cold brew or to try some of their other items on the coffee menu.
The Hot Dish donut is the one I decided to claim as my own. The thing to know about this donut is that it is a savory item. Don't expect a lot of sweetness. That might turn some people off, because most people think of donuts as a sweet treat, but I'd recommend giving it a try if you're curious!
The potato and cheese donut does offer a hint of sweetness to what otherwise tastes like a savory fair dish. Cream cheese as a "frosting", being topped with bacon, chive, and crumbles of potato chips, does all come together pretty nicely.
While it is a novelty donut of sorts, I would definitely order it again if I were in the mood for a savory donut!
In all, if you are looking to treat yourself with some higher-level donuts than just a dozen from a gas station or grocery store, give Voyageur Donuts a try!
