On Monday night, an active shooter situation at the Super 8 Hotel in Cloquet left three people dead, two victims and the suspect. The incident led to a shelter-in-place order from law enforcement for residents in the area that lasted about an hour, before police were able to determine the situation was safe for the public in the area.

The Cloquet Police Department has since provided additional information about the incident.

In a press release on Wednesday morning, the department shared that 22-year-old Shellby Marie Trettel of Cloquet, Minnesota was one of the two victims of the shooting. Trettel was an employee at the Super 8 where the shooting occurred. She was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The other victim was 35-year-old Patrick Jeffrey Roers of Deer River, Minnesota. Roers was found deceased in his vehicle in the Super 8 parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds.

The suspect, who was also found outside on the Super 8 property with what police say appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound was 32-year-old Nicholas Elliot Lenius of Ramsey, Minnesota.

At this point, the Cloquet Police Department has not yet released a motive for the shooting or any connections the suspect may have shared with either of the victims.

In the wake of this tragic situation, the Cloquet Police Department shared the following statement:
