I subscribed to this guy's YouTube channel a while back, and I've found his videos pretty interesting. Biking is a big deal here in Duluth. We have miles and miles of mountain biking trails. We have the lake walk, and beautiful scenery to take in as you pedal your way through town. For most of us though, biking season ends when the snow starts flying. Not this guy.

Wandering Duluth posted a video recently of his first attempt to bike to work on his mountain bike. He even says in the video the challenge will be that he doesn't have a fat tire bike. Fat tire bikes handle about 2 to maybe 3 inches of fresh snow and get through it ok. Regular tires aren't designed to chomp through the snow.

On the day Wandering Duluth was riding to work, there appears to just be a dusting of snow.

As he rides along the Skyline roadway by Enger Park, he mentions that he can see his tracks in the snow. He's getting about 1 1/2" tread on the front tire and even more tread on his rear tire.

I gotta be honest with you, I thought we were going to catch a few spills on camera.  As far as I can tell, he made it all the way down to Canal Park where the sun had already started melting the snow on the lake walk.

His first ride was a success. So if you were wondering if you needed a fat bike to ride in Duluth snow the answer is, well yeah probably. But it is possible with trace amounts.
