The study was released on Wednesday (January 17th), using recent data from the FBI to come up with this list of the top ten. They looked at the top 127 cities in the state, which means Duluth was included in this list, along with other smaller cities for an even playing field.

In fact, they looked at the violent crime rate and property crime rate per capita for every town with over 5,000 residents. The results? A list of places you may want to use extra caution if you are visiting, perhaps.

There are things to keep in mind while you are reading this list, including the following:

  • Minnesota is the third most dangerous state in the country, according to RoadSnacks. That is one statistic I did not see coming.
  • The violent crime rate for Minnesota is 652 per every 100,000 people.
  • Being the 'Land Of 10,000 Lakes' definitely plays a bit of a role in Minnesota being named dangerous, because water deaths are high on the list of leading causes of injury and death.

So let's get to it! These are the ten most dangerous cities in Minnesota as of 2024. Keep scrolling to find out which cities made the cut and why they made the cut. A few of these might surprise you.
