Sun Country Resuming Direct Flights From Duluth To One Destination, Discontinuing Another
Northland residents looking for a break from the usually brutal winter weather will be happy with recent news about Sun Country Airlines. However, it's not all good news for those looking to escape to warmer weather most conveniently.
The Duluth International Airport shared a post on their Facebook page this week confirming that Sun Country Airlines would be resuming round-trip direct flights from Duluth to Fort Meyers, Florida beginning in February.
The post boasted that golfers could once get in a few extra rounds, while my mind goes to the fact that the Minnesota Twins hold spring training in Fort Meyers, and a direct flight on Sun Country would be a convenient way to watch some baseball in the Sunshine State.
Beginning in February, the Duluth to Fort Meyers flights will be available on Mondays and Fridays and you can book your trip now. I went through part of the booking process and was pleased with the available rates.
I went to the Sun Country Airlines booking page and chose a flight leaving Duluth to Fort Meyers on Monday, February 5, with a return flight on Friday, February 9.
The flight leaves Duluth on Monday at 11:15 a.m., arriving in Fort Meyers at 3:40 p.m. The return flight leaves Fort Meyers at 7:30 a.m. and arrives in Duluth at 10:20 p.m. Keep in mind that Fort Meyers is in the Eastern Time Zone.
While I didn't go through the entire booking process, my base cost for the round-trip ticket was just $138.20! While the website said the price included all applicable air taxes, fees, and carrier-imposed charges, additional baggage fees were not included. Rates will fluctuate based on when you book your trip, but that initial rate is certainly a good sign.
It wasn't all good news, however, with Sun Country Airlines and Duluth. While the direct flights to Fort Meyers will be resuming, the airline will no longer offer direct flights from Duluth to Phoenix. Northland resident looking to visit Arizona can still book Sun Country out of Duluth, but they'll need to utilize their partnership with the Landline Bus Company and flight out of Minneapolis.
