It's being called the Plaid Splash, and it's an official attempt to set a Guiness Book of World Record for the largest gathering of people wearing tartan.

What's tartan? That was my first question. It goes back to the origin of the pattern used for kilts in Scotland. Over the years, it became plaid in the English language and is mostly commonly seen around here in the form of flannel shirts.

Giant's Ridge, a ski and golf resort in Biwabik, Minnesota, is attempting to break the Guinness Book Of World Records on April 4. They're asking people to come out to the Plaid Splash at Giant's Ridge to help break the record. Currently, on the Guiness Book Of Worl Record's website, the record is 1,359 people. It was set in 2019 in Canada.

There are other reports of the record being broken in Houghton, Michigan, in 2023 with over 1700 people, but it's not on the official website.

Entire Day Of Activities At Giant's Ridge

Besides the record attempt, there will also be the fun spring pond skim, a vendor fair, family activities, an Easter Egg hunt, and a concert following the pond skim.

LOOK: Things from the year you were born that don't exist anymore

The iconic (and at times silly) toys, technologies, and electronics have been usurped since their grand entrance, either by advances in technology or breakthroughs in common sense. See how many things on this list trigger childhood memories—and which ones were here and gone so fast you missed them entirely.
