This is very sad news for animal lovers - and for those that frequent the Great Lakes Aquarium often. Staff just shared a bittersweet update.
Great Lakes Aquarium is definitely a special place. Not only is it located on the shores of Lake Superior, but it is also has been in the area for 25 years as a top attraction for locals and tourists in Duluth.

To balance out this bittersweet news, you probably want to check out the newest addition to the Lake Superior Zoo: a cotton-top tamarin that now joins its two parents and three siblings.
The baby doesn't have a name just yet but it is incredibly cute. The Lake Superior Zoo shared photos if you don't have time just yet to go meet the baby in person! Unfortunately, with the birth of this sweet new addition, staff at Great Lakes Aquarium are sharing sad news of their own.
Great Lakes Aquarium Shares Bittersweet News About Fan-Favorite
On Friday (November 7th), the Great Lakes Aquarium shared bittersweet news about their octopus named Fitzgerald. Fitz for short, staff shared that early last month, she began nesting and laying eggs.

While at first glance this may seem like good news, it actually means that she is entering her "end of life" phase. Staff shared that while the eggs aren't fertilized, she will remain attentive for the rest of her life but unfortunately will stop eating.
Great Lakes Aquarium Staff Share Update On Fitz - What Happens Now
Staff say that while you may see Fitz from time to time when you visit the aquarium, she is unlikely to be spotted as much as usual, noting she will stay close to her nest. This is really sad news but the circle of life, unfortunately.

Fitz is a Giant Pacific Octopus and while beautiful and really cool, they only live between three to five years. Staff shared they will keep everyone updated. This will definitely be a huge loss for the community.
