A fun Thanksgiving tradition will soon make its way through downtown Duluth as the Gobble Gallop 5K Run/Walk is back. This year marks its 20th anniversary, and registration is still open.

It's not only a lot of fun, but it's a great way to get a little exercise and burn some calories before your Thanksgiving feast. They say that a person weighing 150 pounds running at a moderate pace (10-minute miles) for 30 minutes typically burns around 300-400 calories. So, depending on your size and pace, you could burn off your first piece of pumpkin pie before you even eat it!

I've run every Gobble Gallop, including virtually during the pandemic, except for one year when I was recovering from a hamstring injury. After all these years, I still remember the first one when there were hundreds of runners, but now it's grown to a huge event involving thousands of runners participating in the 5K, a 1-mile race, and a kids' event.

I highly recommend signing up, and you'll save money if you sign up soon. As of October 30, the registration fee is $42 plus fees, but that price will go up as the race fills up.
