Have you ever heard of Mav on YouTube? He has millions of subscribers and puts out a lot of videos of him enjoying the outdoors, camping, and other adventures.

Recently he went to a Duluth area lake to do early ice camping in his inflatable tent. In the video, he shows how to navigate and test the ice safely. He tries his hand at fishing and shows us what it's like to spend the night on just a few inches of ice.

Mav is originally from Duluth, but he's traveled all over to do his videos. He also has an Airbnb rental available near Two Harbors. Quite the entrepreneur!

So Mav does his first walk out on the ice and brings a spud bar to check the thickness. He says if the bar doesn't go through the ice in a punch, it's safe to walk on and drag his gear across.

A lot of Mav's subscribers are from warmer locations and may have never seen ice. He shows what a pressure ridge is to his subscribers. It's when two sections of ice push together. In this case, it was a little sketchy and his spud bar even went through a spot.

Before he sets up his tent, he sets up a tip-up in some shallower water, just to get a line in.

After he gets that setup, he brings out his inflatable tent and realizes he forgot his anchors for the tent. I've been there, and I can appreciate his honesty. He even shows a brilliant hack to anchor the house without his tools.

Most people who ice fish and camp on the ice have their ice holes drilled inside. But, Mav used a tent that he's even used on open water. It's an inflatable raft with a canvas top. He's not putting any holes in that, but it's not a bad idea to use it. He'll stay waterproof and dry in it. If the ice were to break, it would float. It's also warm enough that he doesn't need a shelter when he's fishing.
