Winter is still very much in the air in Minnesota, with the forecast calling for overnight temperatures to sink below zero in parts of the state this weekend.

However, Daylight Saving fast approaching on Sunday, May 8, and the first day of spring is arriving on March 20, so it's almost time begin shutting down our favorite outdoor winter activities.

That's why the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources recently reminded anglers of ice shelter removal deadlines, which begin in the southern parts of Minnesota and work their way north.

For those who enjoy ice skating outdoors, another reminder that the season would soon be changing arrived this week from the City of Duluth Parks and Recreation.

Popular Outdoor Skating Rink Closed For The Season

On February 25, Duluth Parks and Recreation sent a notification through Facebook that the Bayfront Ice Rink and Warming House are now closed for the season, due to weather conditions.

While people are still allowed on the ice, they should be aware that the ice is not being maintained, so they will be skating at their own risk.

That doesn't mean ice skating in the Duluth area has to stop, however, because there is a good alternative. Open skating is available at Essentia Duluth Heritage Center every Sunday from 3 pm to 5 pm, and on Wednesdays from 6:30 pm to 8 pm.

The cost for open skating is $5 per person, and there is a limited number of skates available for use.
