The end of September doesn't mean the end of Northland road construction projects. Last week, the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced the reopening of a road and a new partial road closure related to the Twin Ports Interchange Project in Duluth.

Both of those went into effect on Monday, September 30, with the partial road closure expected to be in place for several weeks.

Meanwhile, the City of Duluth recently announced a section of downtown Duluth was about to be closed for what is expected to be 10 days.

The City Of Duluth Announces Downtown Closure

According to the City, a contractor will be closing 1st Avenue East for utility repairs between 1st Street and 2nd Street in downtown Duluth starting on Tuesday, October 1. This temporary closure is planned through Friday, October 11.

This closure will affect the road and sidewalks. There will be a posted detour using 1st Street, Lake Avenue, 2nd Street, and 2nd Avenue East. Both pedestrians and drivers should follow the detour signs in the vicinity.

This closure will also include the following:

  • Alley between First Street and Second Street: Residents and customers who utilize this alley should access the various blocks from either Lake Avenue or 2nd Avenue East. The alley crossing at 1st Avenue East will be closed during this work.
