Every year, when the temperatures begin to rise, we are warned about tick season arriving and how everyone in Minnesota should be diligent about protecting themselves from tick bites due to the diseases that can come from them.

It's certainly a worthy warning since a tick bite can potentially cause diseases such as Lyme disease, which is the most common tick-borne disease in Minnesota and the United States, Anaplasmosis, Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Tularemia, and Alpha-gal syndrome.

So, it's obviously important to be aware of ticks and look out for warning signs of any tick-borne illness, but ticks are not the only pests that can cause disease in Minnesota.

Perhaps you've heard the joke that mosquitoes are Minnesota's state bird since they can be so predominant and unbearable at times during the year, but while that's a good joke, sometimes a mosquito bite is no laughing matter.

Mosquitoes are not only annoying, but they can be nasty little disease spreaders, and below are 11 such diseases that you should be aware of as mosquito season approaches once again.
