Minnesota Man Gets Nearly 14 Years for Deadly Police Chase Crash
Maplewood, MN (MinnesotaNow) - A Minnesota man has been sent to prison for causing another man's death while fleeing from law enforcement.
The deadly crash occurred on the evening of December 13, 2024, in the Twin Cities. Court documents indicate the police pursuit began when officers initiated a traffic stop in Roseville and the driver sped away.
Failed PIT Maneuver
According to the criminal complaint against 38-year-old Nicholas John Price, Roseville police unsuccessfully attempted a so-called PIT maneuver before the chase continued through Little Canada and into Maplewood. The court document describes how a deputy was approximately half a mile behind the fleeing SUV driven by the Roseville man when it smashed into a car at an intersection.
Other Driver Fatally Injured
The driver of the car was critically injured and later died at a nearby hospital. The criminal complaint says Price was also transported to the hospital with a broken leg suffered in the crash.
Visited Bar Before Chase
The court document indicates that Price gave a statement to law enforcement and told investigators he was speeding at between 80 and 90 mph just before the fatal collision. He also stated that he had gone to a bar following a domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend but claimed he did not drink alcohol.
Guilty Plea
He was charged with criminal vehicular homicide and felony fleeing police resulting in death. Through a plea agreement, he entered a guilty plea to the fleeing police charge in January in exchange for the dismissal of the criminal vehicular homicide charge.
