Mistakes happen.  Probably one of the biggest fears that a new parent has is that their baby boy or girl will be mixed up at the hospital.  It recently happened at the Virginia Regional Medical Center on the Iron Range.

A nurse at Virginia Regional Medical Center recently brought a newborn to a mother to breastfeed, but it was later discovered it wasn't her baby.

Hospital officials are looking for ways to make their systems more fool-proof.

Medical Center CEO Bill Smith tells the Mesabi Daily News a nurse entered the wrong room with the baby and failed to match the newborn's hospital bracelet with the mother's. Smith says an ID card that followed the baby included the mother's room number, but the mother had changed rooms. He says the card system has since been abolished.
