Husky Energy Closes $435 Million Calumet Deal
There's a new owner in town! Canadian-based Husky Energy closed on their bid to buy the Calumet refinery in Superior. The $435 million deal was finalized on Wednesday. According to company spokespeople, Husky expects to keep the current workforce - which numbers around 180 people.
With the deal, Husky Energy now will have the capacity to process approximately 390,000 barrels of oil a day.
As one of the larger employers in Superior, the refinery provides processing of raw product to produce asphalt, diesel, gasoline, and heavy fuel oils. Husky expects to grow their asphalt division.
