How Big Is Duluth’s Proposed Sewer Rate Increase?
It'll cost you more to flush that toilet if a proposed rate increase passes. An increase of 4.5% is on the table for homeowners within the City of Duluth for the sanitary storm sewer part of their utility bill.
In advance of that proposed rate increase, the Duluth Public Utilities Commission is holding a public meeting. Similar to many Duluth government meetings since the COVID-19 Pandemic started, this meeting will be held in a virtual fashion on Tuesday, September 21 - starting at 5:15 PM. The public hearing will be held at the start of the regularly-scheduled Commission meeting.
On the agenda will be complete discussion regarding the sanitary storm sewer rate increase. Officials with the Duluth Public Utilities Commission will "explain the proposed 4.5% increase to the sanitary storm sewer variable rates and to receive comments from the public regarding the proposed change".
According to details released by the City of Duluth, members of the general public that want to comment on the proposed rate increase can either attend the meeting and speak during the public hearing or they can submit written comment to Jim Brenning, the Public Works and Utilities Director for the City of Duluth. If you're sending an email, be sure to include "September 2021 DPUC Agenda" in the subject line so that it can be processed correctly; also include your name and address, and the agenda item you wish to speak to -- the rate proposed rate increase in this situation.
