Hostess Hamburger + Hot Dog Buns Recalled
Wait! Before you fire up that grill, you might want to check the buns.
At the present time there have been no specific medical issues reported in connection with the popular summertime backyard barbecue products. However, the company became aware of the potential situation from it's co-manufacturer Best Harvest Bakeries as part of a routine environmental monitoring program.
Here are the specific product names, along with their UPC numbers:
- Hostess Soft White Hamburger Buns - UPC 888109110987
- Hostess Soft White Hot Dog Buns - UPC 888109110970
For each of the product lines (hamburger and hot dog), there are a large number of Batch codes and Best By Dates involved. Click here to see the complete, updated list on the U.S. Food and Drug Administrations website.
As Best Harvest Bakeries only manufacturers certain Hostess hamburger and hot dog buns for the company, no other Hostess products are affected or included in the recall effort. "[This includes] Hostess bread and bagel products".
According the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, here are the signs and symptoms involved with both listeria and salmonella:
- Listeria: Can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Short-term symptoms can include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
- Salmonella: Can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Short-term symptoms can include fever, diarrhea, nauseam vomiting, and abdominal pain.
If you believe that you have some of the affected Hostess Soft White Hamburger Buns or Hostess Soft White Hot Dog Buns, you're urged not to eat them. Throw the product away immediately. Or, return it to the place of purchase.
