Homestead Creamery Ice Cream Recall

A brand of ice cream is being recalled due to the potential for undeclared allergens.  Homestead Creamery is recalling one lot of their Homestead Creamery Chocolate ice cream quarts because it may contain undeclared pecans in the product.  The recall is voluntarily happening at the impetus of the manufacturer.

The specific lot of ice cream being recalled is dated 5/13/2021 - and was distributed in May in various retail outlets.  Consumers can find the date of the ice cream on the bottom of the quart container.

According to the United States Food and Drug Administration, there have bene no known medical issues with the ice cream.  The recall is strictly being issued as a precautionary measure. That said, allergens can be a very serious matter.  "People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to pecans run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products."

Homestead Creamery voluntarily issued the recall after they determined that "product containing the pecans may have been distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of pecans."

Due to the nature of the product (ice cream), there is a concern that the recalled food could be in someone's freezer without them knowing about the recall.  Consumers are asked to check their freezers - comparing the labeling against the issued recall.  Consumers who do have quarts of Homestead Creamery Chocolate ice cream that matches the identified date should not consumer the product; return it to the point of purchase for a full and complete refund.  Questions should be directed at the company by calling 540-721-2045.
