Updates On The Lake Superior Medical Equipment Building Fire In Duluth
On September 14th, crews were dispatched to Duluth's Hillside neighborhood as the Lake Superior Medical Equipment Building was on fire.
A fire took place at the Lake Superior Medical Equipment Building on East Fourth Street in the Hillside neighborhood. According to WDIO, the City of Duluth’s Public Works Department shut off the gas to the entire 500 block of Fourth Street to help protect the area. Minnesota Power also shut off electricity in the area as well.
Lake Superior Medical Equipment is in between Uncle Louis Café and Dunbar Floral & Gifts. The mission at Lake Superior Medical Equipment is:
Our mission is to be the region’s premier home health care equipment company by providing unparalleled support to our community’s healthcare professionals and to enhance our customers’ independence and quality of life by providing high-quality products and exceptional service.
They shared an update on their Facebook page. Unfortunately, their Duluth location is a total loss after the fire, however, their Cloquet location at 901 Stanley Avenue is open. See the update below:
Uncle Louis also posted an update on their end. Looks like the restaurant is fine, however, the area is not accessible to the public:
The Duluth Fire Department had to call in assistance from the Superior Fire Department and the 148th Wing’s fire department to come help in last night's fire. WDIO stated that the fire was confirmed to be contained where it originated around 8:35 pm.
There were also four apartments located above the building, and it sounds like those residents were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported. The Duluth Fire department also stated that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
