My first encounter with the Turtles was in the mid to late sixties. I had gone to one of their concerts, and was amazed at the drummer John Barbata. I later talked my way back stage, and had a great conversation with Johnny, who was constantly drumming on the floor, pipes in the building, his knees, my back, all while carrying on our conversation. Later on after the show they  invited me to a party at a Holiday Inn. As we walked towards their rooms, we passed a huge pool. You guessed it, Marc and John picked me up and threw me in the pool, laughing like crazy. It was all in good fun, and we partied till the wee hours of the morning..I had a blast.

I stayed in touch with Johnny over the years he was with Jefferson Starship, and beyond. He's been a guest several times on my radio show, and I always have him on my show on his birthday. Over the years Johnny has told me many stories about the Turtles and the Beatles among others. Let me tell you my favorite. The Turtles were in England for a limited time, and the Beatles wanted to meet them. At the appointed time, a large Rolls Royce limo sent by the Beatles pulled up in front of their hotel, where they were whisked away to a large home in a secluded area outside London. They had  dinner with the Beatles, which  eventually turned into a three day and night party. They struck up a friendship which lasts to this day with the Turtles. And that's rock n roll.
