Google Maps users who happen to have the app open while they cross the border into Minnesota will find an Easter Egg of the purple variety.  Users of the map app and various news sources have reported that they have now spotted a cartoon image of Minnesota's homegrown musical icon Prince as part of the welcome to the state message.

The Egg is a nod to the Minnesota-born pop music artist who continued to make his home in the state after he attained stardom - right up to his death in April 2016.

While the Prince/Minnesota image is unique to the state, the Easter Egg welcomes are common with most state borders on Google Earth.  Accordingly, most states feature some sort of tie-in to people, items, or subjects that have made them famous.  Click here for a visual look at some of the other state welcome icons from Google Maps.
