Coming off their success with Duran Duran, Andy and John Taylor decided to form their own band. Enlisting their friend Robert Palmer and  Tony Thompson (of Chic), they recorded a self titled album, producing two hits on the Top 40, "Some like it Hot", and "Get It On." The album was a massive success and a world tour was scheduled.

Michael Des Barres filled in for Robert Palmer during Power Station's world tour, as Palmer was recording a solo album of his own. Following the tour, Power Station disbanded.  The Taylors returned to Duran Duran which probably saved their lives, as the massive amounts of drugs and sex said to be indulged at the time would have killed them.
