This year’s fourth I didn’t host anything, I didn’t have big plans, but it was definitely one of the best Fourth of July’s I’ve ever had.

This was the first Fourth of July in over five years that I haven’t hosted a festival. I was just going to kick back and relax, do whatever I wanted and just get away from the rush of the big Fourth of July weekend.

To my surprise, we ended up having a nice barbecue with the backyard filled with grandchildren, nieces and nephews. It was great to watch everyone enjoy the day, the kids running around, the hugs and love that we sometimes forget. We headed off to the Superior fireworks at dusk and I decided to be one of the crazy people that decided to hop the curb on the side of the road. We picked what was a good spot in front of Menards on Tower Ave. Kids were out with sparklers, and fireworks were exploding all over. The laughing and cheering of the kids with fireworks going off was great.

I love the Fourth of July, it reminds us how great family is and that sometimes we don’t make enough time for them.
