Almost a year ago, Coach Mike Randolph resigned from Duluth East, after being the head coach for almost 32 years. WDIO is reporting that St. Thomas Academy announced he will be taking over head coaching duties.

Mike Randolph is one of the most successful coaches in Minnesota State Hockey history coming in at third. He may have a shot at the top spot after he takes over one of the most successful hockey programs in the state. The Northland Fan had an article about how the Mendota Heights-based school had him on staff as associate head coach, in my opinion, it was a matter of time before they hired him.

WDIO reports that Randolph said it was mostly a matter of seeing if it was a good fit and getting to know each other, including the higher-ups in order to make sure both sides wanted to make this happen.

The Northland Fan covered Mike Randolph when he held a press conference at the Essenia Health Duluth Heritage Sports Center last June and said it was a few parents who ruined it for others and it wasn't just him that was losing his job that it was happening around the state. He noted coaches Dave Aus at Brainerd and Janne Kivilhalme at Lakeville South.

According to Fox 9, Randolph led the Greyhounds to 18 state tournaments, two state championships, and six runner-up finishes. He was the 2012-13 Coach Of The Year and was inducted into the Minnesota State Coaches Hockey Hall Of Fame in 2018. Randolph’s 671 career wins trail only former Rochester Mayo coach Lorne Grosso (707) and former Albert Lea coach Roy Nystrom (705) on Minnesota high school hockey’s all-time wins list.
