The City of Duluth is alerting winter-time beach explorers about a temporary closure that will occur on the Lakewalk. According to officials, a portion along Phase I and Phase II will be closed for fence installation from Monday, December 16 until Wednesday, December 19; the fencing will be installed between the walk and bike paths and the railroad tracks.

If the project goes according to the timeline established at the onset, those portions of the Lakewalk should be re-open to commuters on Thursday December 19.

The recent snowstorms have brought attention again to the stability of the Lakewalk area - especially following the damage that rain, wind, and snow has caused over the last few years.  Four storms - from October 2017 to April 2019 - has caused between $25 million and $30 million in damages.
