Duluth Parks + Rec Launch Summer Programs For 2021
Summer's here! The City of Duluth Parks and Recreation department has announced their plans to return their summer park programming for the season. If you're looking for a way to keep your kids (or the whole family) engaged this summer, there are all sorts of programming options available.
The summer programming schedule offers a little bit of something for everyone. If you're looking for specific, targeted programs, there are a wide variety of different ones to sign up for. The city is offering sports activities for kids - like hiking, bug catching, dance, bird observation, even a variety of programs for adults. While some of these offerings are free of charge, some come with associated fees.
Additionally, the City of Duluth Parks and Recreation department is pleased to announce the return of some of the more high-profile summer activities and events coordinated through their office. One of those events is "Story and Play" - which happens Monday mornings throughout the summer. Everyone is invited to a different neighborhood park each week from 9:30 AM until 12 Noon for "socially-distanced storytimes in the park...followed by fun, youth-focused activities and recreation." All of the activities will be presented in a "grab and go" fashion to take home, or the kids are welcome to stick around and get help with staff at nearby picnic tables. The selected stories will introduce young children to books, rhymes, music, and other fun activites that promote early literacy skills. The stories and activities are geared to children age 0 to 5, but any age is welcome. To see the full schedule of dates and park locations, click here.
At the same time, summer 2021 will see the return of the Chester Creek Concert Series. These free Tuesday evening shows feature a variety of local bands and musicians; participants are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and take advantage of the food trucks on site.
