Duluth Looks For 25 People To Join Citizen Police Academy
Have you ever wished you could get a better picture of what really goes on inside the inner workings of the Duluth Police Department? Or, have a desire to get a better sense the important issues confronting our community? Here's your chance!
The City of Duluth is seeking applicants to take part in the 2023 Citizen Police Academy. Specifically, they're looking for 25 individuals - who meet the above-mentioned qualifications in that they have a desire to learn more about police operations.
So what goes on with the Citizen Police Academy? A description on the City of Duluth's website gives some insight:
"Citizen Police Academy offers citizens both in-field and in the classroom instruction regarding different tactics, operations, and divisions within the Duluth Police Department. There will be multiple opportunities for questions to gain a better understanding of Duluth Police practices and procedures, and the reasons for them. Our goal is to unite our citizens and police officers as we work together to create safe Duluth for all."
Applicants will commit to Wednesday evenings - from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM - starting March 8 and lasting through May 24.
Duluth Police Chief Mike Ceynowa adds:
"The Citizen Police Academy is a great way to foster relationships between the community and our officers. It give attendees the opportunity to get hands on experience and understanding about daily functions at Duluth Police Department (sic)."
If you'd like to take part, all you need to do is fill out the online application. The Duluth Police Department will notify those accepted into the 2023 Citizen Police Academy by mid-February; that announcement will also include the additional details they need to get started in the program.
