Duluth Churches Offering Safe Alternative Trick or Treating

Trick or treating is one of those things that many people may choose not do this year because of COVID-19. That can leave a lot of sadness for kids who get excited every year about Halloween. Some people have come up with alternative ways to safely social distance and still hand out candy. Locally, there is a group of churches who are offering drive up trick or treating with safety measures in place.

I saw this on Reverend Jeanine Alexander's Facebook page. She is the minister at the First United Methodist Church in Duluth. It's more famously known as the "Copper Top Church." They will be handing out candy to drive up trick or treaters on Halloween (October 31) evening between 4-6pm. The Copper Top is located at 230 E Skyline Parkway. I think this is a great way for families to safely get out of the house on Halloween and still bring some fun in a tough fall season.

Here's how they plan on keeping you safe:

• Candy has already been set aside to quarantine for two weeks so that there isn't a risk of COVID-19 on it's surface.
• Candy will be passed out by volunteers wearing gloves
• volunteers will be wearing masks

Additionally, other churches have joined as a safe drive up trick or treat spot for the same time frame of 4-6pm on Halloween:

• Forbes UMC (33 Grove St. Proctor)
• Hillside UMC (1801 Piedmont Ave)
• Faith UMC (1531 Hughitt Ave in Superior)
• Pilgrim UCC 2310 E. 4th Street
• First Lutheran Church 1100 E. Superior St.
• Bethany Comm. Church 6700 Grand Ave.
