The Duluth Police and the Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force was helping the Superior Police with a felony traffic stop when the suspect fled.

The suspect, Joseph Jeffrey Eastman, had multiple felony warrants when officers tried to stop the suspect around the 2000 Block of Hammond Avenue. Eastman fled in a vehicle driving his car at officers, injuring two officers, and causing significant damage to squad cars and property damage to a garage a fence and some private vehicle.

Superior Police pursued the suspect from Superior into Duluth and arrested the suspect when the chase ended at 40th Avenue West and I-35. According to Duluth Police Eastman "was taken to the St. Louis County Jail for felony warrants on 2nd Degree Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, 2nd Degree Sale of Cocaine, 2nd Degree Possession of Methamphetamine and Cocaine, Possession of Ammunition, and Fleeing Police in a Motor Vehicle."

After this incident the Superior Police were involved in another pursuit after officers returning from the previous event when they noticed a known suspended driver operating a vehicle around the 600 block of Grand Ave. in Superior when the suspect fled. The car was found not long after at the Superior High School and the driver and passenger fled on foot but were found and arrested.

The injured officers had non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to make a full recovery after getting treatment at local hospitals.
