It's no secret that the cold winter months are especially hard on our local food banks. The same families that struggle with putting food on the table during the summer months are faced with increased utility bills and stressed family budgets around this time of year.

Now you have a chance to make donations to one of the Twin Ports food banks go a little farther.  The Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank has announced that there is a donation match opportunity for all donations made between now and the end of the year.  The Lahti Family Charitable Foundation has generously agreed to match all donations up to $10,000 made to the food bank through December 31.

The Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank has its origins in the early 1980's on the Iron Range as the Arrowhead region suffered the depths of a double-dip recession.  A small group of volunteers organized the first food bank in Gilbert as the Arrowhead Food Bank.
