The first Festivus took place in February 1966 and was created by Daniel O'keefe a celebration of his first date with his future wife. And used a clock in a bag hung on the wall as the symbol of Festivus.

Now celebrated on December 23, as depicted in a Seinfeld episode and the Festivus pole was created. The appeal of the holiday was that it wasn't held to anything political or religious beliefs.

The Festivus Pole: was invented by the Seinfeld show and was changed from the clock to the pole and has been added to main stream, even Florada State Capital in 2013 had a 6 foot pole made of beer cans.

Festivus dinner: The original holiday dinner in the O'Keefe household featured turkey or ham. The Seinfeld show meal shows Estelle Costanza serving a sliced reddish colored meat-loaf shaped food on a bed of lettuce.

Airing of Grievances:  Which takes place immediately after the Festivus dinner has been served. In the traditional Seinfeld Festivus, only the head of the household seems to be given the chance to air his/her grievances. However, in most Festivus households, the ability to air one's grievances is usually extended to others. The O'Keefe Family Festivus, where family members were invited to recite their gripes into a cassette tape recorder.

Feats of Strength: The head of the household selects one person at the Festivus celebration and challenges them to a wrestling match. Tradition states Festivus is not over until the head of the household is pinned.
In Seinfeld the tradition, a person is allowed to decline the offer only if they have something better to do instead. This was not part of the O'Keefe family Festivus.

The Season is for love and peace no matter what or how you celebrate.

Merry Festivus to all.
