Derek Linzy, Worked For Prince, Pays His Knowledge Forward
Derek Linzy says if it has a groove and it's a good song, he likes it. That's the way he writes and teaches.
Derek has always been around music and grew up liking Prince, Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, and Duran Duran.
Derek can play drums, keyboards/piano, guitar, and bass. He says he can't play all well, but he teaches piano and guitar. He began his professional career in 2002 and started by creating demos for local artists in Champaign, Illinois along with his brother.
Derek caught a break when he was going to school to be an engineer, he was recommended to work for Prince. Derek said he felt lucky and got to hear and mix music no one had heard yet. He put in some time at Paisley Park (Engineer). According to his bio he has also worked with Coolio (Producer) The Oxygen Channel (Music composer) and TV One, The Real Rickey Smiley show (Music Composer) just to name a few.
One thing about him I like is he has been a Music and Audio production teacher online and as a college professor for the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign,
