After a national search to find a new Executive Director at The DECC a local candidate has gotten the job. Dan Hartman is currently the director at Glensheen and has been in that position for the last eight years. He will be taking over the role on June 14.

Hartman does have somewhat of a connection to the DECC already when as a Senior at UMD back in 2006 Hartman helped lead the student campaign to build Amsoil arena. Former Duluth Mayor Don Ness who is a board member and was part of the search committee said " Dan’s successful track record and leadership at Glensheen, his passion for Duluth, and his creativity combined to confidently bring him forward as our finalist."

With all the success Glensheen has had in maintaining itself as a major tourist destination even through the Pandemic, I am sure that Hartman will do a fantastic job with his new position at the DECC and maintaining it as a key entertainment venue.

Hartman said to WDIO :

It is an honor to serve in this role and my hope is to build on the good work of the past leadership and staff. In the immediate future, I will support the DECC’s great health and safety record so guests feel welcome and confident as we return to more events. I also want to showcase and further leverage the DECC’s proximity to the greatest lake there is -- Lake Superior. “We are this great combo of a versatile indoor facility located in an outstanding outdoor city.
