Community Connect will look a little different, but because of the help it provides the homeless is still scheduled to take place.

This year, because of state mandates to be safe with the pandemic, Damiano Center announced on their Facebook page,  that the community Connect will be held under an outdoor tent. The tent will be located in the parking lot outside. The event will be on October 30th from 11 am to 1 pm at 206 West 4th Street in Duluth.

Every year the event is held twice to give people who are homeless and struggling to make ends meet some essential hygiene items, coats, hats, and gloves. WDIO reports that this is also an opportunity for St. Louis County to conduct a count of people who are homeless that show up to get information and provide help through funding to homeless housing programs.

In years past there have been services like hair cuts and foot care, sometimes massages or other services. This year there will be a lot of social distancing and providing people with the information they need.

Community Connect is organized by a coalition of nonprofits including Loaves and Fishes, The Salvation Army, and the Damiano Center, with support from St. Louis County Public Health and Human Services. This event is free for people who are homeless or needing services.

Because of COVID-19, there are more homeless people than ever and this event gives them information, some services on-site, and to meet with people who are trained to help homeless people and meet some of their needs.
