Years ago, Rayman was an advocate of  adding a separate category known as "sidemen" to the Hall of Fame. A sideman for example might be a sax or horn man who was not a member of a band, but had performed and recorded with many groups of notoriety who may already be a hall member. The committee agreed, and we now have such a category.

I have been an advocate for the entire band being inducted rather than the main artist of the band .  Example: It's better to induct The Rolling Stones, rather than simply Mick Jagger. Better to induct Aerosmith, than Steve Tyler alone. The Hall didn't agree with me on that point however. They now have made a half hearted effort to right their wrongs, and start inducting the bands as well. Too little too late. While it's certainly a step in the right direction, the harm has already been done.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has decided to induct six bands whose high-profile leaders previously made it into the hall individually, in recognition of the critical role those musicians played in the history of pop music.

Buddy Holly’s Crickets, Bill Haley’s Comets, James Brown’s Famous Flames, Gene Vincent’s Blue Caps, Hank Ballard’s Midnighters and Smokey Robinson’s Miracles will join their frontmen as full-fledged members of the Hall of Fame at this year’s induction ceremony, slated for April 14 in Cleveland.
